You required to pay full price in advance for your villa in Bali. Sight unseen we have sent a years worth of rent to Indonesia. One, are we crazy? Two, after 4 wires transfers to pay for school and 3 more to pay for the house…..c’mon, we had to be on some NSA watchlist. Who randomly starts sending that many wires to Indonesia!
Upon arrival, fears were immeditely alleviated. Our villa for the year was beautiful. Funny enough, this was probably the most stressful part of the whole trip and it vanished the moment we arrived. We prayed the kids would like their rooms. Was Jack too far? To get to mom and dad he turns a flashlight on, walks through a room with life size Hindu god statues, goes up stairs, opens an exterior door, walks onto a patio then opens our door. Yikes! Is it safe? Will everyone like the pool? How noisy is it?
Canggu, Bali is our home until July 15th, 2025. Let’s take a tour of our villa shall we? When done, perhaps you will be inspired to stay in the guest house 🙂
Upon parking your scooter / car the magic begins. You enter through a black (maybe marble?) archway that one could get lost in for an hour. There are carvings of dragons, monkeys, with gods intertwined. Stepping through the archway a floating wooden bridge carries you over a coy pond towards the front door. Before turning left into the home he greets you. Ganesha, God of New Beginnings, Wisdom and Luck; Remover of Obstacles, Supreme God, stands welcoming you home.
The downstairs spaces is divided by the grand stair case that leads you upstairs. The ground tile is a checker pattern which blends seemlessly to the dark wood floors and deep green shades of the cabinetry. A firework display of chandeliers sits above the center island partnering with the floor to ceiling windows in provided ample light.
Stepping through the kitchen you turn towards the living room. Flower painted walls marry with a wall of mirrors to open up the space. A wrap around couch is where we all snuggle up and watch Disney+ / Netflix, etc. Some things never change.
Walking past the deities and daily offerings you enter Jack’s room. The Peacock Room welcomes you with a large bed covered with mosquitoe netting. We had this added….Jack was crucified by mosquitoes for two weeks and looked like Will Smith in that scene from Hitch when his face puffs up.
After heading upstairs a large patio awaits. Pictures don’t do it justice but we have a 180 degree view of rice fields hugging the west and north sides of the property. The fields were a beautiful sight before the recent harvest, we cannot wait for it to grow back again soon!
Then you have Lyla’s room. Lyla Rae crushed the decorating. Each child was able to bring half a suitcase of items from home to make them feel nice and cozy. Lyla decorated her room perfectly. Pictures of friends share her bed stand, squish-a-mellows line the couches and memorabilia fill the bathroom. Well done Lyla!
Across the patio is the parent’s room. An ornate, hand-carved, bed centers the space. We often stare at the headboard and posts wondering about the work that went into this beauty. We also ponder….uhm, how can we get one of these to Seal Beach? Unseen are a large bathroom and an outdoor shower that overlooks the rice fields, amazing!
Back downstairs you exit through the kitchen to our favorite family area. A pretty sitting area is our stop off point before jumping into the pool! It’s only been 5 weeks but we have probably read thousands of pages on the cozy couch, spent countless hours chatting…and consumed a cocktail or two. The coy pond re-enters our life here as well.
To the pool! My lack of power over the English language doesn’t do the backyard justice. The kids favorite path to the pool is the slide. Bougainviella trees provide color and shade across the whole space. Farmer’s working in our neighboring rice field are ever present and the guest house stands empty…waiting for one of you to join!
In the very busy, traffic filled, noisy life of Bali we are so thankful for our home. We are filled with gratitude knowing that we have this space as a family to start and end our day.
Hope you enjoyed the tour!
